IMSS Bienestar Celebrates 63rd Anniversary of Xoco Hospital

The IMSS Bienestar celebrated the 63rd anniversary of the General Hospital of Xoco, highlighting its role in trauma care and health professional training. The event was attended by key health officials who reaffirmed their commitment to specialized care.


The Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) Bienestar reaffirmed its commitment to specialized care and the training of healthcare professionals in a ceremony commemorating the 63rd anniversary of the General Hospital of Xoco, located in Mexico City.

The event was attended by the general director of IMSS Bienestar, Alejandro Svarch Pérez, the head of the Health Care Unit, Alejandro Ávalos Bracho, and the hospital director, Víctor Cuacuas Cano. During the celebration, the relevance of this medical center as a reference for trauma patient care and as an academy for training future healthcare professionals was highlighted.

In his speech, Alejandro Svarch Pérez praised the General Hospital of Xoco as an important teaching hospital and emphasized its role in training healthcare personnel. Since its foundation in 1962, this hospital has been fundamental in treating trauma patients, constantly adapting to provide effective responses in emergency situations, such as traffic accidents and the COVID-19 pandemic.

The General Hospital of Xoco has 186 census beds and 55 non-census beds, operating under a zero rejection policy. It has become a reference point for patients with neurotrauma and musculoskeletal trauma. During the ceremony, the importance of the medical and administrative staff was emphasized, highlighting that the hospital not only provides medical care but also comprehensive support to patients.

The hospital director, Víctor Cuacuas Cano, highlighted the center's adaptability to the needs of the population over its 63 years of history. Additionally, the hospital's disaster response program and its helipad, which facilitates the transportation of patients to other health units optimizing transfer times, were noted.

Authorities from the State Coordination of IMSS Bienestar and the Health Secretariat of Mexico City were present at the ceremony, reaffirming their commitment to specialized medical care and the well-being of the population. The event not only commemorated the hospital's history but also focused on strengthening the network of health services in the city to ensure all citizens have access to quality care.
